For example, the Emerald Green & Black Strapless Sweetheart Rosette Prom Gown from the Flirt by Maggie Sottero 2012 Prom Dresses collection is a great option for a Quinceanera looking for a traditional cut. The all-taffeta ball gown has asymmetrical pick-ups and corset back that create a dramatic fit. Raw-edged rosettes and trendy feathers accentuate the hip for a glamorous effect.

Dress idea for damas
A great option for your damas is the satin Happily Ever After Pleated Swing Dress in emerald green. This design is a vintage remake that can be paired with a crinoline slip for a vintage look or without for a more modern feel.

Quinceanera Madrinas
For your madrinas, a more mature style such as Unique Vintage’s Stop Staring 40′s Style one shoulder dress also in emerald green, would be more appropriate. The bodice is a one-shoulder style with a sweetheart neckline on the other side and a fitted wiggle style skirt. This dress is made out of stretch satin and the right side of the bust has a black, gathered mesh overlay.

Quinceanera guest
If you’re a Quinceanera guest shopping for emerald green dresses, perhaps the beaded cutout one shoulder dress from Blush Prom by Alexia will suit your fancy. This design is a tad risqué with a cutout at the waist that reveals partial skin. The cutout is designed with rhinestones all around, with the same detailing found on the shoulder strap.

Let British designers inspire your Quince dress

Be inspired by Vivienne Westwood's 2012 bridal collection.

This summer London’s calling for more than attention to the 2012 Olympics, it’s also demanding attention to its stellar list of fashion collections: Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith, Paul Galliano, Christopher Bailey, Stella McCartney, John Richmond, Philip Treacy, Julien McDonald and Vivienne Westwood. If you don’t recognize the names of any of these British designers, you may recognize the high-end celebrities they dress. Lady Gaga, for example, is an avid admirer of Alexander McQueen and responsible for making popular his SS2010 stilettos which she wore in her “Bad Romance” music video. Rihanna has been spotted numerous times wearing Stella McCartney and teen icon Selena Gomez has made Vivienne Westwood a go-to for her red carpet events.

Although these designer’s signature pieces run in the thousands, there are elements of their collections that you can incorporate into your Quinceanera dress, especially since they are all known to have signature styles that make their designs iconic.

Elements to add to your Quinceanera dress

In the case of Vivienne Westwood (image above), the designer is known for incorporating her rock edge into mainstream fashion, and in her 2012 bridal collection Westwood adds that flare to her gowns through the use of unconventional hemlines and necklines. Her designs are softened with the use of elegant draping, lovely lace and romantic styles.

After Alexander McQueen committed suicide in 2010, Sarah Burton was named head of the British design house. Since then, Burton has upheld the name of McQueen presenting collections that are theatrical, intriguing and forward thinking. For her fourth Alexander McQueen collection, Burton presents adventurous pieces that are textured with feathers, volume and ruffles. But Burton also has the ability to create more delicate wear, as was the case in the fairy tale gown she created for the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress, which was an ivory gown with lace bodice, embroidered sleeves and a 9-foot train.

Unlike Westwood’s designs (which are edgy and daring) and McQueen’s (which are theatrical), Stella McCartney’s designs are recognized for their femininity. The daughter of former Beatles member Paul McCartney made a name for herself since her first collection and largely due to her “no animal” policy, meaning the designer does not use any leather or fur in her designs, which is a practice not too common amongst high-end designers. The most recent McCartney creation to be quickly picked up celebrities is her SS2012 oval circle motifs designs that are designed to create an optical illusion following the wearer’s natural curves. This collection has been worn by Salma Hayek., Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman.

Keep the British  inspiration going with accessories for your Quince party and a British-inspired music playlist.

The 3 types of XV dresses you need to know

XV dresses
Catalog XV dresses, designs from emerging designers, and gowns from an established fashion house. What are the pros and cons for each and which option is best for your Quinceanera budget?

Organizing a Quinceanera can be as memorable as the party itself, and shopping for the Quinceanera dress is by far the most exciting part of the party planning. But that joy can quickly turn sour if your family becomes overwhelmed by the various market choices. Therefore, before you set foot in search of the perfect Quince dress, you need to know the 3 most popular gown options available and the pros and cons for each one. Knowing this will give you and your family the tools needed to narrow down your choices and shop for the type of Quinceanera gown that best suits your personal taste and budget.

The 3 types of XV dresses you need to know

XV dresses

Catalog Quinceanera dresses from Moda 2000 boutique.

Type #1: Catalog XV dresses
Catalog dresses are mass-produced and are often sold to individual retailers in large volumes. These are standard in design and sold to various retailers.

Cons: Since this type is produced in large quantities, chances are many Quinceaneras have worn the style or one very similar to it. So if a family is looking for a unique, one-of-a kind dress, this option will not work for them.

Pros: Since mass production keeps the cost of this type of dress low, it’s the less expensive option. Also, most catalog dresses are available in a large selection of colors and sizes, making it easy for a Quinceanera to find this model in the color and size she’s looking for. Plus, most Quinceanera boutique shops that carry catalog dresses tend to sell them in packages that include accessories, bouquet, kneeling pillow, and other ceremony basics.

XV dresses

XV dress by emerging designer Raul Corona.

Type #2: XV dresses from emerging designers
These are gowns created by designers that are starting to make a name for themselves in the Quinceanera market. These designs are the midway point between Type #1 and Type #3.

Cons: Since most emerging designers work independently, they may be limited to resources, which may cause them to only take a few orders at a time. So getting your order in and on time will be key if ordering a dress from an emerging designer.

Pros:  These type of designers have a young hunger for creating, which is quite exciting for a Quince girl who is also at that point in her life of seeking freshness and innovation. This option allows families to purchase a unique Quince dress without having to pay the high cost that is typically associated with a high-profile brand. Plus, you never know if the emerging designer of today will be tomorrow’s leading brand. So being part of that history in the making is quite exciting.

XV dresses

Designs by Mexican fashion guru Mitzy.

Type #3: XV dresses from established fashion houses
These are the brand dresses that are widely known within the Quinceanera market, they’ve been in the public eye for years and may have even dressed celebrities, too.

Cons: the biggest setback to selecting this type of gown is the price tag associated with the fashion house. Although most major labels work with payment plans, the final cost may still be too much for some families to afford. Also, since most established houses juggle various projects at one time (fashion shows, media events, photo shoots, etc.), families will need to schedule an appointment as early as possible. In some cases, even one year in advance.

Pros: Quality. Major fashion houses have their reputation to uphold, so creating top of the line dresses is their top priority. These gowns are flipped inside out, over and out with every seam and detail inspected before given the seal of approval. Another benefit of going with this type of dress is the privilege of wearing an exclusive gown of that particular brand. Many Quinceaneras choose this design because it goes hand-in-hand with the idea of being “Queen for a day”.

Quinceanera dresses

Raul Corona’s Quinceanera dresses mark the stage at our Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, Moda 2000, Raul Corona and celebrity designer Mitzy showcased Quinceanera dresses for attendees of the Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show in Los Angeles, California.

Anaheim-based dress shop Moda 2000 sent its models down the runway in a flurry of cotton candy colored dresses with rhinestones embroidered on the bodice.  One of the models was our 2012 Los Angeles Cover Girl winner, Shelbi Byrnes, who wore bright colors of fuchsia pink and sparkling silver on her dress. Moda 2000 showed two different collections – one with shorter dresses aimed at the damas in a Quince court, and the other included longer, more elaborate dresses for a Quinceanera. A unique aspect of the Moda 2000 fashion segment included the models parading down the runways carrying bundles of balloons which they handed off to audience members who were happy to receive them.

Quinceanera dresses

Emerging designer Raul Corona kept the lineup of Quinceanera dresses coming with his elaborate designs. Venturing away from his usual style of sweetheart style necklines, Corona’s dresses showcased lace embroidered sleeves akin to a renaissance style fit for a princess. The dresses included a white, cream and gold creation with mesh sleeves, gold leaf beading at the bodice, and layers of cream lace and pleating on the skirt. Another model posed with a dress adorned in pink ruffles and gold rhinestones. A ribbon acted as a sleeve on this particular dress, reminiscent of a monarch’s regal sash. Taking a cue from the power color of the year, emerald green, another of Corona’s models wore a green and gold dress with a one-shouldered feather and ribbon design on the sleeve. And right on trend with spring’s latest tresses styles, his models wore trending high buns with braids tucked into the design.

Quinceanera dresses

Finally, designer-to-the-stars Mitzy displayed his Quinceanera dresses with a baroque theme, including luscious cascades of blue, gold and maroon fabrics that were embroidered with gold threading and delicate accents. His models carried masquerade masks to complete the European baroque fashion. Other designs from Mitzy included gold and pink Quinceanera dresses with long trains. The models’ hairstyles ranged from a bouffant half-up style with flowing curls to updo’s with curls and crowns as accessories.

Quinceanera dresses

A model poses in a dress by Angelina Secret Bridal.

Angelina Secret Bridal is one of the designers being featured at this year’s Quinceanera.com Orange County Expo and Fashion Show. Owned and operated by Blanca Yepez, this one-stop Quinceanera dress shop in Santa Ana, Calif., features both custom-made and catalog dresses.

Yepez, who has owned the store for four years, says she has “different styles of dresses because girls like different styles.” Accents and fabrics can range from organza to ruffles and layers.

A unique aspect of this Quinceanera dress boutique is the ability for the dresses to have custom embroidery. Yepez says since catalog dresses usually do not have embroidery, the store caters to girls who would like to have a “colonial style”, which means that the Quinceanera dresses have to be custom made. “We do the embroidery by machine, and all of the embellishments like rhinestones are done by hand,” explains Yepez about the process.

Although custom-made dresses take an average of three months to make, girls visit Yepez’s shop one to two years in advance, usually with a dress design already in mind. Yepez’s passion for dresses takes on a fairy godmother role when she helps her clients find their perfect Quinceanera dress.

“I’m passionate about Angelina Secret Bridal because [a Quinceanera party] is an amazing tradition. The girls take a lot of time to go through the details – they dream about the dresses since they are born, it’s like a wedding dress. I try to make their dreams come true,” says Yepez.

At the expo on June 30, Yepez will feature her store’s new and custom-made collection of Quinceanera dresses, titled ‘Neon’, showcasing bright dresses in summer-worthy colors.

quinceanera dresses

Find your favorite Quinceanera dress here.

The Quinceanera dresses from the 2013 Quinceanera.com Orange County Expo and Fashion Show stunned the crowd at the Crowne Plaza Anaheim Resort in Garden Grove, Calif., on Sunday, June 30. The styles of the dresses ranged from Quince party dresses perfect for changing into for a surprise dance and lilies daintly painted on bodice corsets.

The first designer to hit the runway stage was Moda 2000. The Anaheim-based dress house showcased designs perfect for changing into during the dance portion of your Quince party. The models wore flowing dresses of aquamarine, hot coral and radiant blue. Cascading chiffon skirts revealed mid-length cocktail dresses. A beige dress covered in white cystals adorned a sheer tulle skirt and a hot coral dress featured a mix of peach leopard print. The audience received a breath of minty freshness with short dresses in seafoam green encrustered with rhinestones at the waistline.

Next, avant-garde designer Raul Corona showcased a flurry of carnaval-inspired Quinceanera dresses complete with adorned masquerade masks. Models floated down the runways and walkways in Quinceanera dresses layered in blue, pink, purple, yellow and green taffeta. The dresses had accents of feathers and ribbon adorning the skirts of the models.
As Raul Corona’s dresses floated off the runway, the models of Angelina Secret Bridal made their grand entrances. The collection, aptly titled ‘Neon’, was inspired by the brightness of summer. Fuschia, yellow, blue and purple Quinceanera dresses glided down the runway. A cheeky orange dress with a rainbow arch twirled around the skirt was the standout piece in the collection.

Enchanting the crowd next were the designs of Mexican desginer-to-the-stars Mitzy. His first models walked out in corsets featuring intricate designs of lilies and celestial angel wings. Known for his colonial-inspired designs, models flaunted gold, blue and purple hued dresses with long ruffled sleeves and multi-colored skirts. A contrasting color peeked out from each of the dresses for an unexpected whirl of color. The collection closed with a purple and lavendar ruffled confection.

Rounding out the dress collection was Moda 2000’s Quinceanera dress collection. Creations of tulle skirts and more were strutted down the runway by the models.

Golden Globe Dresses

Get inspired by these celebrities’ dresses and create a fabulous quinceanera dress!

How about copying one of these starlets to create a marvelous quince dress?

The 71st annual Golden Globes Awards ceremony took place this past Sunday January 12th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California; and aside from the wonderful nominees and emotional speeches the best part of the show were of course, the dresses.

The 2014 Golden Globes ceremony was indeed a dress galore as celebrities of all ages stunningly walked the red carpet channeling their inner cat walk model while flaunting Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin, Givenchy, Zac Posen and Carolina Herrera among other amazing designers.

By now you have probably seen thousands of quince dresses but if you still haven’t decided on the most suitable design, then check out some of our favorite gowns from the 2014 Golden Globes gala.

Get inspired by these gorgeous celebrities and their fabulous taste in fashion and create your very own Golden Globes inspired quince dress!

Our top three dresses of the night were the black quinceanera-ish gown by Zac Posen and worn by Sofia Vergara, Kate Beckinsale’s exquisite shiny mermaid cut dress and of course, Lupita Nyong’o, who stole the night with that beautiful red bright Ralph Lauren dress. All of these dresses are suitable as a quince dress, just make sure to pick the colors accordingly and please do not wear only black to your quinceanera.

Emma Watson’s unique Dior couture dress broke the typical red carpet mold; consider this type of dress if you’re planning a surprise dance. That way you could still be comfortable without losing that chic factor.

Our favorite romantic looks were Michelle Dockery’s lovely Spring 2013 Oscar de la Renta, Emma Roberts’s Lanvin cleavage and Kaley Cuoco’s Rani Zakhem gown.  We particularly loved Julie Bowen’s dress, although her choice of wearing taffeta and velvet to a red carpet even was highly criticized, the top part is adorable and the contrasting colors of her Carolina Herrera gown could work perfectly for a quinceanera.

As for daring designs, we loved Cate Blanchett’s Armani high collar and mermaid bottom gown and Louise Roe’s peachy dress and those sleeves, to die for!

different quinceanera styles

Choose the best that fits your body type.

For the most part, the final decision is based on the styles of Quinceañera dresses that best flatter your body, right? Therefore, if you fall in love with a dress that does not fit you appropriately, choosing a different one is the best option – even if the dress is beautiful. Keep in mind that its main purpose is to make you shine, so its best to go for a Quinceañera dress that will measure up.

1) Traditional Quinceañera dresses

If you are having a traditional party, this will be the perfect dress for you: a flattering, demure dress with a flare of formality combined with femininity. This style is perfect for petite Quinceañeras. Do not use puffy or padded sleeves; these must be short in order to stylize your figure. A short tail in accordance with your height will be an excellent addition.

Quinceañera dresses

Fun Quinceañera Dresses

If you want your party’s mood to be full of excitement, choose a style such as the popular peacock dress. The fun and colorful feathers will dazzle your guests. For Quinceañeras who have a short torso, it is advisable to wear a dress where the top part falls a couple centimeters below the waist to give the allusion of a longer torso.

Quinceañera dresses

3) Sophisticated Quinceanera

If you choose to have a highly elegant party, wearing rhinestones is a must. Their shine will make you look like a celebrity. Combine it with an accentuated waist, bare shoulders and a long dress. This style is perfect for Quinceañeras with small chests since the rhinestones will create volume.

When speaking of Quinceañera parties, the dress is considered the most important part of the celebration—for the birthday girl at least. From the moment you slip into your dress to your grand entrance at the church and reception, all eyes will be on you in your amazing ball gown.

Luckily, the offerings are aplenty for Quince girls who intend to approach their big day with either a name brand gown, one designed by an emerging designer, or in a unique dress concocted by their own creative intuitive. With either selection, the possibility to find the best dress that suits your personal style as well as your budget exists, especially with the different ways that you can shop for it.

For example, if you want a dress of a popular manufacturer such as Mori Lee or Mary’s Collections, Creaciones Eve and Maria’s Collection, from the city of Bakersfield, can offer a great selection.

For a completely avant-garde design, choosing from the early collections of an emerging Quince dress designer will add that sense of fashion forwardness you are seeking. Do a search online or visit art & design schools in your area for a list of up and coming fashionistas that can offer you one of their designs or create the one that you imagine.

There are also large dress warehouses that allow you to browse through their entire dress inventory, most of which offer great selections at a fraction of the original cost. But a setback to this type of shopping is that, for the most part, they do not have spacious dressing rooms, leaving you dressing in a small space created by hanging curtain room dividers. Unlike warehouse shopping, specialty shops that sell high end gowns will not let you browse freely through the dresses but will ask you for a description of what you’re looking for and then bring you similar gowns.

Then, there is the option of purchasing your gown online. Although cyber shopping conveniently saves you trips to numerous boutique shops, a lot of caution should be taken when ordering your dress this way. Some websites will ask for specific measurements such as your bust and waist size, height and neckline, while others will only give you the option of choosing number sizes. If you find yourself having to purchase your Quinceañera dress on the Internet, opt for a site that allows you to plug-in your specific measurements and have them taken by a professional before you confirm your order.

And, as with any product, counterfeit gowns exist. To ensure that you will receive the high-quality gown you’re paying for, you want to make sure the boutique you’re ordering from is an authorized retailer. Start by visiting the dress brand’s official webpage for a listing of retailers licensed to re-sell their dresses.

For this, we put together our first-ever Bakersfield Quinceañera Dress Boutique Guide—a resource for those who want a selection of Quince dress providers and designers reigning in the Central Valley.

An Authentic Mexican Quinceañera

A Mexican Quinceañera: beautiful and strong.

Alberto Arroyo inherited the needle and thread from his parents in Guanajuato. At the age of 13, he learned the trade of making a Mexican quinceañera happy by making their tulle, crinoline, and taffeta dreams come true.

From his atelier in the San Fernando Valley, Alberto helps young girls who travel from as far as Bakersfield to have their traditional quinceañera gowns made with a touch of contemporary fashion that reflects a generation of young Latinas.

In his boutique, Alberto’s Bridal, quinceañeras can find everything needed to put together their Quince attire from the gown to the crinoline, the glassware, bouquet, tiara, pincushion, cake utensils, and even the doll. Above all, they can find someone who listens to them.

“Not only do we try to make something beautiful, but something that complements the girl’s features as well.”

The colors make this dress authentic.

Interpreting Dreams of a Mexican Quinceañera

Alberto knows that a mexican quinceañera dreams about their gown, but sometimes they don’t know what they want. Coming to an agreement with their mothers is also a problem. “I try to pursue them to get a dress that remains for posterity; one in which they feel comfortable and adjusts to their body,” says the fashion designer who has 16 years of experience and three years managing his own business.

However, sometimes it is hard to make a decision because the girl and her mother want different things. “Both talk about different tastes in fashion and want different things, but the main purpose is to talk to the girl and find out what she wants. The quinceañera is a once in a lifetime event that is remembered forever, so we try to prevent a mexican quinceañera from looking at her pictures later on and say: I can’t believe I wore that!”

Together with his business partner, Eduardo Romero, and his sister, Lupita, Alberto helps families choose what adjusts to their interests by providing several options. “Not only do we try to make something beautiful, but something that complements the girl’s features as well. I recommend the best, something traditional but not old-fashioned, or something modern but not too exaggerated to the point that it looks ugly.”

From Traditional to Bold

Alberto’s creations come spontaneously. “Suddenly you get an idea and you make it into a sketch. Then you begin working and improving it. This is thanks to experience, you know when to stop if you’re trying to make something different. My inspirations are usually my nieces. I think about them most of the time because they have a very distinct personality and I can go from elegant to bold searching for materials and styles.

“Ever since I was 13, I would go to school and help my parents, although I never thought this would become my profession. Always creating, taking risks, and experimenting, this is how I got to where I am,” he assures. To Alberto, the fact that people trust his designs is something to treasure. He believes that his greatest challenge was creating his first design because after breaking the barrier he knew anything is possible.

Quinceanera dress

These are the five dress cuts you need to get familiar with, asap.

If you go into a dress store not knowing what cut of Quinceanera dress best flatters your figure, dress shopping may quickly turn into your least favorite part of party planning.

This easy-to-follow guide will spare you time and anxiety by helping you determine the cut that can accentuate your best assets and minimize your least favorite.

1.) Mermaid/Trumpet: This cut highlights a woman’s curves. Its silhouette contours to the body from the chest to the knee, and then flares out to the hem. The mermaid cut has a slightly longer tail than the trumpet and the trumpet cut flares out wider than the mermaid style.

Who It Flatters: Slender, short and tall Quinceañeras, as well as those who are comfortable with their curves.

2.) A-Line/Princess: A traditional Quinceañera dress is designed in this style. This type of dress has a slimming bodice and full-skirt that reaches down to the floor.

Who It Flatters: A ball gown fits every body type. It has a fitted bodice that can create the illusion of a flat or bulge-free mid section, and has a full skirt that can hide wide hips or accentuate them if they are slim.

3.) Dropped waist: In this cut, the waistline is dropped below the hips.

Who It Flatters: Traditionally, shorter girls were advised against this cut since it tends to give the illusion of shortened legs. However, it has become more popular with shorter girls as much as it is with taller Quinceañeras.

4.) Empire: The waistline of this style of dress sits just below the bust, from which the rest of the gown flows down.

Who It Flatters: Quinceañeras with large busts can benefit from the coverage and support this style offers. The room in the stomach area also makes it ideal for girls that are looking to minimize their midsection.

5.) Sheath: Also referred to as a column dress, this type pf gown tends to hug the body from top to bottom and has some room at the hem.

Who It Flatters: Lean or petite girls can use this style to accentuate their figure since there is not much room for hiding problem areas around the mid section. The sheath dress also creates the illusion of added height.

Now, which one would you choose?

Mitzy: High-end Fashion for Young Quinceañeras

Mitzy Fashion, glamour, and style are words that define Mitzy, a Mexican designer, who has worked for top celebrities in show business for over 35 years

Wanting to become a fashion designer ever since the age of 15, he has worked for famous celebrities such as Verónica Castro, Isabel Pantoja, Rocío Jurado, and even Thalia, for whom he designed a spectacular wedding dress.

His workshop in Mexico currently employs more than 80 workers and his boutique in Huntington Park is swarmed by young girls who are anxious to find the perfect dress for the most special day in their lives: their Quinceañera. With his eyes set on his two new boutiques, located on Broadway and Pacific Blvd, respectively, Mitzy welcomes us to his shop in Huntington Park and shares with us the secrets that every Quinceañera must know in order to “become a princess” on her special day.

What is the best part about designing a Quinceañera dress?
It’s having the opportunity to be part of an intimate family celebration. I’ve been in the business for 35 years and have clients for whom I designed their Quinceañera dresses, then their wedding dresses, and now I’m designing their daughters’ dresses.

The current economic crisis has affected many businesses. Does this include Quinceañeras?
Whether there’s a crisis or not, young girls are turning fifteen. The girl doesn’t know there’s a crisis going on, but the dad does and he refinances the house to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. It’s also important for the mom because she had a Quinceañera, or maybe she didn’t, or just in case her daughter doesn’t marry. Young women nowadays hardly get married. Quinceañeras have replaced weddings.

What is the most important aspect of the Quince attire?
She’s the queen of the night, so the most important aspects are her dress, hair, and makeup. I also recommend they exercise regularly to lose a bit of weight if necessary. The results are amazing.

What is the biggest mistake a Quinceañera can make?
Having everything match the color of the dress. I break this tendency. For example, if the dress is pink, then everything else should be silver or gold. Another common mistake is wearing makeup that matches the color of the dress. Makeup should match skin tones and highlight facial features.

Mothers play an important role when it comes to choosing a dress. What advice can you give them?
To let their daughters choose their own dress. Don’t interfere so much.

What color is in style this year?
Silver. Last year it was purple and it’s still popular among Quinceañeras. Black combined with another color’s also in style.

Is there a particular style that girls request?
Many Quinceañeras have asked for skull designs. I don’t do that because it’s not my style. They also ask for an emo style that’s very popular in Mexico. I avoid it and let others explore it. I respect it, but it’s not my style.

It is common to see Quinceañeras wear many accessories. What do you think about this?
I try to convince them not to wear too many accessories. My dresses are splendid enough and don’t need anything other than a nice hairstyle, tiara, and bouquet. I try to design collars that are clean and necklace-free.  Mitzy

How far in advance should you order a dress?
Ideally… six months in advance. However, if someone comes to me with an emergency, I can have it ready in three days.

Your favorite dress…
The lily design inspired by Diego Rivera. It’s a top seller. It’s decorated with hand-made oil paint created by a Mexican artist.

What is the source of your success?
The crinoline. In the United States, they use hoop skirts that don’t adapt to the style of the dress. I use tulle crinolines that produce fullness at the bottom of the dress. This way, when a Quinceañera turns, it is something magical, total glamour.

How to Choose your Quinceañera Dress

red quinceañera dress

Their are certain factors to consider when choosing the perfect Quinceañera dress

Although you will be the center of attention, the selection of the right Quinceañera dress, makeup, and hair style will help you appear radiant on this important day.
The following are some suggestions and ideas that will help you with the selection of your dress.

The Dress and your Body Type

Look for the dress that best fits your body and in which you feel completely comfortable.
To add volume from the waist down, a puffy tulle dress will create the desired effect.

  • If you want to narrow your silhouette, we recommend A-line dresses, corsets, imperial cut dresses, or dresses made with plain or undecorated material. The neckline can be V-shaped, a low round cut, or a halter.
  • If you will wear a backless dress, it should be either strapless or contain thin straps.

Dress Color and Fabric

It was customary for Quinceañera dresses to be white or a pastel color, decorated with sequins or another elaborate detail. Nowadays tradition and fashion can be combined.
The color selection of the dress is important because it determines the colors that you choose for the decorations, invitations, cake, and flowers.
There is a wide variety of fabric to choose from. It varies from traditional silk to the most modern materials used today.
The style, type of fabric and color of your dress is determined by your style and personality, although we recommend that you stay close to today’s fashion trends.

Vanity?

Depending on your budget, you may wear one single dress or as many as three different dresses. The first dress which is used for the church ceremony can be more formal and traditional. The second dress can be worn at the reception and may be elegant but less formal. The third and final one should be the most comfortable as you will wear it to dance throughout the night.
If the reception is formal we recommend that you wear a long dress. On the other hand, if your celebration is less formal you could select a short dress or a long skirt with a corset.

Dress Selection

1.- According to your budget, you will decide if you purchase or rent the dress and whether it is going to be new, second hand, custom made, and whether you will have one, two or three dresses. Having your dress custom made does not mean that it will be less expensive; the price depends on the type of fabric, design, and the tailor you select.

2.- The decision to select and order your dress should be made at least 9 months in advance, and you should have also visited several stores, web pages, and looked through magazines to make your decision.

3.- Ask your mother for advice or someone you trust in case your mother is not with you. We do not recommend to be accompanied by several people when purchasing your dress because different opinions may confuse you.

4.- Search for the dress of your dreams until you find it. Make sure you are satisfied with your selection. It is absolutely necessary to try on all the styles you like and also those you do not like very much because you might find that you like the way they fit you.

Purchase or Custom Made?

Buying your dress has the advantage of a wide array of styles and prices. It will also help you save time and work, and it will make it easier to find the accessories in one place. If you do not find what you are looking for, but have an idea of what you want, go to a fashion designer and he or she will design your dress the way you would like it. And if you have not decided what you want, talk to an expert to see what he or she recommends. This way you will obtain a unique style made especially for you. Another advantage is that your fashion designer will adapt your dress to your budget.

Tailoring?

Look for information and recommendations about fashion designers and/or tailors if you do not have your own. Make an appointment in advance (9 months) to discuss ideas on how you would like your dress. A professional will listen to you and give you his opinion. Remember that they have experience on the subject and will tell you what suits you best. Visit different fashion designers before deciding for one, you have to be convinced that the person you selected is the best person for the job. Remember that you will work together for a while. We recommend that you ask a lot of questions about your dress. For example: how much it will cost, what type of fabric will be used, how long is going to take to finish the dress, what type of accessories are recommended, type of shoes, etc.

When visiting the fashion designer for the dress fitting wear the same shoes you are wearing on your Quinceañera day. If you have decided to wear your hair up for your big event, you should also wear it up when you go for your fitting so you can get a good idea of how the neckline will look. Also, take the jewelry and accessories you will use on that day. Go with your mother or someone you trust. Do not take anything that could stain your dress, especially make-up.

How to choose the perfect neckline

perfect neckline

The strapless neckline is the favorite among designers Quinceañera dresses to be the most favorable for all types of silhouettes.

The perfect neckline of your dress must fit you best, it can’t be revealing, scandalous nor vulgar.

Before choosing a Quince dress you must keep in mind that your neckline must make you feel comfortable without showing too much skin. Pick one that fits you best and that makes you look incredible on your special day. The wrong kind of cleavage can ruin your dress making you feel uncomfortable on your special day.

Here are the types of necklines you can choose from:

Strapless

These are Quinceañeras and designers’ favorite neckline due to the fact that it favors almost every body type. You can find them round or heart shape. If you have straight and thin shoulders this is the perfect neckline for you.

Off the shoulder

This neckline features a straight line going from one shoulder to the other leaving both slightly uncovered. It is sexy and elegant, perfect to harmonize and balance your figure since it makes it seem as if you have a tinier waist. However it keeps you from moving your arms freely.

Halter

This is the perfect neckline for the curvy Quinceañeras, it conceals big breasts but also helps add volume if worn with draping, embroidery or glitter on the top part. It generally ties at the bottom part of the neck leaving the back, arms and shoulders uncovered. Definitely a sexy choice!

Scoop

It might not be spectacular but it is comfortable, avoid using it if you have a round face; perfect for Quince girls with a rectangular shape face.

High neck

This is the perfect neckline for a night, winter or simply cold celebration. It covers your whole neck and can be complemented with lace applications, thin threads and rhinestones, a sober and super elegant design.

TIP: It is best to go through a skin treatment days before your Quince, that way no matter which type of neckline you choose, your back, arms and neck will look radiant.
